Rajeev Kohli, joint managing director of India’s Creative Travel has condemned what he calls the government of Delhi’s “shocking tax hike on hotels”.
Writing in the company newsletter, Creatively Yours, Kohli complained, “This means that our guests will now pay a ridiculous tax of 15% on the published rates of Delhi hotels. So even if you are paying 50% off the published rates, you will still pay tax at the higher level.
“We have to pay taxes even on free rooms. This will impact prices on all 4-5 star hotels by an additional US$14-US$20 a night.
“The industry has tried to reason with them, but it seems the maverick government is oblivious to the needs of business. This is not a positive move for tourism in general,” Kohli added.
