PERTH - Perth’s Fringe World Festival will be
promoted in Singapore for the first time in a move to encourage Singaporeans to
travel to Western Australia for the 2020 event.
A Singaporean advertising agency will develop a
campaign targeting Singapore millennials.
Fringe World is the third largest Fringe festival
in the world and the largest annual arts event in Western Australia, based on
attendance.
Fringe World has been running in Western Australia
since 2011 and is now a popular annual event in the state’s summer calendar.
The 2019 Festival featured 674 shows taking place
in 169 venues, with about 415,000 tickets sold. The 2020 Festival programme
will be revealed on November 14.
West Australian Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said,
“By extending the marketing of this festival to Singapore, which is one of our
key international markets, we hope to see even more people travelling here to
experience this exciting event.”
Last financial year, 103,500 visitors from
Singapore spent more than A$250 million (US$170.2m) in Western Australia,
making it the second highest international market for WA for both visitor
numbers and spend.
