In what could be one of the most adorable cross-overs in Universal Studios Japan’s attractions, Pikachu and Super Mario will join forces in spring 2022 at the NO LIMIT! Parade. This parade will mark the first confirmed attraction featuring two of Nintendo’s biggest franchises.

The daytime parade makes a return with more zest added to the mix after the theme park put a one-year halt to all its parades due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Other popular animated characters from Minions, Hello Kitty, Sesame Street, Peanuts and ‘Sing’ will be marching alongside Pikachu and Super Mario at the NO LIMIT! Parade.

The parade will mark the first appearance of Super Mario Bros. characters following the Super Nintendo World opening and signal the start of the Pokémon collaboration.

The new No Limit! Parade will include floats, street performers, colourful costumes, high-energy music, and non-stop entertainment. Guests will be treated to decades of music starting from the ’60s, while watching their favourite characters pass by on themed floats representing the diverse music.

The appearance of Super Mario and Pokémon characters at the parade comes hot on the heels of the recent announcement that there’s a newly added Super Nintendo World designed in collaboration with Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, and that the Pokémon Company formed an alliance with Universal Studios Japan to develop interactive entertainment at the park.

“We are honoured to have a long-term partnership with The Pokémon Company while developing ground-breaking Pokémon entertainment at Universal Studios Japan for both Pokémon fans and our guests,” said Universal Studios Japan President and CEO, JL Bonnier.

In addition to dancing alongside other characters at the new NO LIMIT! Parade, there have been hints of further Pokémon features that may be potentially added to the park. An announcement from Universal Studios Japan on 13 October stated that the parade marks “the start of the Pokémon collaboration with the theme park”.

"The incredible team at Universal Studios Japan have the creative vision and leading expertise in world-class theme park technology to imagine a uniquely Pokémon experience,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “This strategic alliance with Universal Studios Japan reflects our commitment to continue delivering the joy of Pokémon in ever-evolving ways for years to come”.

However, details on further expansions with The Pokémon Company in the park aside from the parade have not been officially announced.
