Wego seeks to dominate the travel search space in Asia Pacific and Middle East

The Asian startup scene has been heating up in recent years, with a large proportion of these new ventures being travel focused. However, Wego is one travel firm which started even before this wave had begun.

The self-professed startup (which is more than 8 years old) seeks to provide travellers with the best prices that OTAs have to offer. Wego was co-founded by Ross Veitch who had developed his career building internet companies most notably for Yahoo! where he was employee #1 in Southeast Asia. In 2005, he teamed up with Craig Hewett who was managing e-commerce across APAC for Intercontinental Hotels Group to bring travel metasearch to the Asia-Pacific.

Wego targets literally anyone and everyone booking travel online using a PC, tablet or phone. Its main objective is to make it faster and easier for consumers to compare prices and products across the widest possible range of flight and hotel websites from any device. The firm operates in 50+ countries worldwide, but is primary focused on Asia-Pacific and Middle East markets.

For Wego's hundreds of OTA, Airline and Hotel partners, the metasearch engine provides a highly efficient and flexible source of consumers that are dropped into the check-out path of their website, credit card in hand ready to book a flight or hotel. For display advertising clients, Wego provides options to target travellers like travel destination, brand preferences, travel history, future travel dates that are impossible to find anywhere else.

Last year, the Travel Search Engine secured $17 Million in Series C funding, which is just validation of its footprint in the region. Fast forward to this year, Wego mobile apps are being very enthusiastically received by mobile users and have been rocketing up the app store charts. In June, Wego became the #1 travel app for Indonesian iPhone users.
