It's go big or stay home for 73% of Singapore travellers surveyed by
Expedia on the Travel Trends Report for 2022. Labelled as travellers
with the "Greatest of all Trips (GOAT) mindset, the report also found
that 43% of Singaporeans who seek out travel are also willing to
splurge, preferring to enjoy themselves than worry over the budget.
Travellers with the GOAT approach seek journeys that will uplift
their health and wellness (41%) while relishing the excitement (38%) and
fulfilment of the trip (37%).
The impact of working from home and the onslaught of Zoom meetings
have led to a strong desire to 'go offline', with 22% of travellers
craving digital detox holidays.
Following that, getaways that offer unique experiences will be
popular, with 26% willing to step out of their comfort zone to try new
things. Of these, 32% will put community first, seeking local
engagements and cultural experiences. This finding correlates with
recent reports that the post-pandemic traveller value sustainable
agendas in their destinations, accommodations and experiences.
The
2022 traveller has a new energy and curiosity, too. Among the
activities they are likely to incorporate are sleeping under the stars
(24%), going skydiving (17%), or going night trekking on a volcano
(13%).
Respondents have also said they are happy to ditch the itinerary
(29%) and go with the flow. After two years of being 'grounded', there
is a heightened sense of anticipation for the next break, with 28%
reporting they look forward to being more spontaneous and living the
moment.
The Expedia survey totalled up responses from 12,000 travellers
across 12 countries, including Asia Pacific. Respondents were adults who
are planning domestic or international travel in the next 18 months.
