From 2-4 June, SHATEC will host the APacCHRIE Conference 2021, a virtual gathering of top industry voices and academia from Asia Pacific to discuss the way forward in a post-pandemic MICE and tourism world.

This fourth edition of the hospitality conference, themed 'Reboot, Reimagine, Redesign!', is a call for industry stakeholders to "rethink the way hospitality operates, how the industry will evolve with emerging robotics and service design technologies and how we can move forward in digitalisation", said Margaret Heng, APacCHRIE president and chief executive at SHATEC.

Among the highlights of the three-day event will be the series of thought leader discussions on 3 June, which includes an opening address by Ong Tze-Ch’in, chief executive at SkillsFuture Singapore.

McKinsey & Company will deliver a keynote presentation on what an industry reboot will look like for tourism players, while a plenary session will base off two papers to relook how Covid-19 can in fact be an accelerant for the trade.

The first plenary session focuses on the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The 'Redesigning Experiences in Tourism in the New Normal' discussion will feature speaker Wong Ming Fai, chief technology officer & QSM, technology transformation group at Singapore Tourism Board (STB), who will be joined by panelists Jeannie Lim, STB assistant chief executive, policy & planning group; Hermione Joye, sector lead, travel APAC, Google; and Wong Soon-Hwa, chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association. The session is moderated by Robert Hecker, MD Pacific Asia at Horwath HTL.

The following session, 'Redesigning Experiences in Hotel and Accommodation Post Pandemic', will feature Rajeev Menon, president APAC (excluding Greater China), Marriott International; Arthur Kiong, CEO Far East Hospitality; and Alexandra Jaritz, senior VP, brand management for Asia Pacific, Hilton in a discussion of 'Redesigning Experiences in Hotel and Accommodation Post Pandemic'. Jeff Crowe, director at Communications Network Asia will be both speaker and moderator.

The second plenary session turns to the world of MICE.

Aloysius Arlando, president at The Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers, will join the “The New MICE Gambit” discussion together with Ong Wee Min, VP, MICE & exhibitions, Marina Bay Sands; Rod Kamleshwaran, partner at Gaining Edge Australia; and Petrina Goh, commercial director for Singapore, CWT Meetings & Events. Adam Piperdy, founder and CEO of Unearthed Productions will moderate this session.

The “Sustainable MICE” session will feature Tom Meyer, senior VP operations for Singapore, Philippines and Maldives, Accor, joined by Choe Peng Sum, CEO Pan Pacific Hotels Group; Sandra Kloprogge, area GM Singapore, InterContinental Hotels Group; and Peter Koh, Asia strategic sourcing manager, travel and professional services at Corning Singapore.

The session is moderated by Lauren Arena, editor M&C Asia at Northstar Travel Group.

In a nod to ongoing efforts to nurture the next generation of hospitality leaders, representatives from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; University of the Philippines; Auckland University of Technology, School of Hospitality and Tourism, Auckland, New Zealand; Singapore Institute of Technology and SkillsFuture Singapore will gather for plenary session 3.
