The Travel Sale Expo 2023, slated for 29 September to 1 October 2023,
at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, Manila is set to usher in a new era for
Philippine tourism. Spearheaded by Michelle Taylan, former president of
the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), and the chairperson
of Travel Sale Expo 2023, this event aims to reignite the tourism
industry.
What to expect
Taylan, with her extensive experience in the travel industry, has
laid the foundation for an event that aims to resurrect the ailing
tourism sector. In her words, "Travellers can expect distinct new
offerings as more travel agencies, hotels, airlines, resorts, tour
operators, travel insurance, and travel accessories are welcome to
participate."
The Expo promises a diverse range of thematic tour packages, catering
to various interests. Whether it's honeymoon escapades, sports tourism,
or health and wellness retreats, the Travel Sale Expo 2023 seeks to
captivate a spectrum of traveller preferences. Additionally, the event
will unveil travel tours in emerging local and international
destinations, opening up new horizons for exploration.
In addition to travel offerings, the event promises a plethora of
activities and entertainment, ranging from game shows to cultural
presentations. A special performance by Filipino Canadian singer and
actor Darren Espanto adds a touch of star power to the occasion.
With around 200 exhibitors confirmed and an anticipated footfall of
60,000 attendees, this Expo holds tremendous promise. But it doesn't
conclude here. Taylan has ambitious plans for the future, stating,
"Unlike other expos that they'll just do it once a year... we prepared a
series of expos which will be done in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao."
Spotlight on Mindanao
The Department of Tourism (DOT) recognises the significance of
Mindanao and its untapped potential. Undersecretary Myra Paz Abubakar
revealed that Mindanao would be at the forefront of the Travel Sale
Expo. She stressed that the DOT's Legacy Campaign Colors of Mindanao
seeks to showcase not only the region's scenic wonders but also its rich
cultural tapestry.
Abubakar acknowledged the uphill battle Mindanao faces in attracting
tourists, attributing it largely to negative "perceptions," particularly
concerning peace and order. This concerted effort aims to dispel
misconceptions and shed light on the hidden treasures of Mindanao.
Boosting Philippine tourism
Bob Zozobrado, president of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines
(TCP), anticipates a significant boost to Philippine tourism through the
Travel Sale Expo 2023. "Tour operators from other countries are now
part of these travel fairs. So, those tour operators, they are the ones
bringing in tourists from other countries," he asserted, underscoring
the international dimension of the event.
Zozobrado's optimism is rooted in the remarkable performance of the
Philippine tourism industry, which recorded over 2 million international
tourist arrivals in the first half of 2023, surpassing last year's
baseline target.
