Increasingly, travellers are looking for a trip that scratches beyond the surface of a destination, that goes beyond the “Top 10” sites listicle.
Startup TripGuru, the Hong Kong based digital tour and activities supplier, has made its name finding local guides offering high quality trips in 61 destinations so far, and the company has recently announced its partnership with Airbnb Experiences.
Already offering tours on sites such as Expedia, GetYourGuide, KKday and TripAdvisor, TripGuru’s tours and activities on the Airbnb Experiences platform have launched with Bali, the company’s flagship, the pilot destination.
Airbnb Experiences started in 2016, designed to focus on locally created activities that introduce travellers to each host’s own world, and as such the two companies synergise perfectly.
“We take this as a vote of confidence that we’re adding value and driving positive impact for everyone,” says Sebastian Renzacci, CEO and co-founder TripGuru.
Francesco Piccolo, COO and cofounder, TripGuru, said “there is so much potential to tap”.
“While countries like the United States and those in Europe lend themselves to experiences offered autonomously by locals, in South-east Asia it’s not always the case.
“For example, in Thailand individuals can’t act as a tour guide without having a licence, which is where TripGuru becomes invaluable in helping open up the market.
“In addition, the focus on local guides empowers them to become entrepreneurs on a worldwide digital platform.”
