PHNOM Penh - Royal Air Cambodge is halting operations, amid severe financial difficulties, reports said.

The airline, like others, has been hurt by the decline in air traffic since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Yet Royal Air Cambodge’s shutdown is due more to its long-term troubles, a report in the Asian Wall Street Journal said.

It has been hurt by competition since Phnom Penh opened its skies to allow foreign-owned airlines to operate domestic flights and let foreign carriers bypass the capital and fly directly to the country’s tourism hub in Siam Reap.
