Ever since Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay opened its doors in 2020, it
has been lauded as one of the greenest hotels in Singapore, both
literally and figuratively.
Not
only does the hotel house a varied collection of 2,400 plants and
trees, it also boasts a wide range of sustainable features ranging from
filtered taps to an in-house garden.
Instagrammable spots
In the hotel that lives, breathes and grows sustainable practices,
the heart of its architecture hinges on its ever evolving design
elements. In the day, guests can be found taking Instagrammable photos
as they meander through the hotel’s pathways with natural sunlight
dappling through the indoor greenery and hang out in the many wooden
bird’s nest pavilions scattered throughout the lobby.
This living design was incorporated into architect John Portman’s
plans, which involved refreshing and adding onto the building’s original
design during its S$45 million (US$33 million) transformation. If the
hotel had been fully torn down and rebuilt instead, it would have
generated 51,300 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of
cutting down 8.7 million trees.
Working their green fingers
A secret garden tucked away in an outdoor space within Parkroyal
Collection Marina Bay cultivates over 60 varieties of vegetables,
fruits, herbs and edible flowers, contributing to 20% of the hotel’s
supply.
Beyond offering the farm-to-table concept with this edible garden,
general manager Melvin Lim, says: “At our hotel, we welcome our guests
at our Urban Farm, and we are very happy to share the benefits of urban
farming, and we constantly encourage our guests to do so for the good of
our environment.”
Guests can pick edible flowers and herbs at their leisure to concoct
their own homemade drinks back in their rooms. For fruits, the hotel
encourages guests to consult with the chefs in the adjourning restaurant
before harvesting.
“Sustainability is everyone's responsibility, and adopting green
innovations is at the core of our hotel's green values,” Lim shared.
“Sustainability is what is best for the planet, and our guests are
increasingly demanding this level of commitment from us.”
In celebration of World Earth Day on 22 April, Parkroyal Collection
Marina Bay is offering 30% off on its Collection Club rooms for weekday
stays.
