The newly renovated five-star Maafushivaru Resort in the Maldives has been acquired by Outrigger Hospitality Group as of 1 April and renamed Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort.
Located on a private island in the South Ari Atoll region, accessible by a 25-minute seaplane flight from Male, the resort features 81 villas ranging in different styles from beach, pool and duplex accommodations in-land to overwater bungalows.
An eclectic mix of F&B options across the resort’s seven restaurants, bar and cafes includes Asian and Mediterranean cuisine; sushi; teppanyaki; and western dishes like steak and salad. The resort also houses a spa offering bespoke wellness treatments.
“This resort is the perfect addition to our array of global beachfront properties,” said Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of Outrigger Hospitality Group. “With travel on the rise, we look forward to welcoming our global guests to the Maldives and curating unforgettable Outrigger Signature Experiences that allow visitors to appreciate Maldivian culture in an iconic beachfront setting.”
These curated guest experiences range from diving with the resort’s resident marine biologist to view manta rays to boat excursions around the South Ari Atoll. Other activities in line with Outrigger’s commitment to sustainable travel include educating guests on coral reef restoration to inculcate a respect for the ocean and inspire action for its preservation.
Hospitality stalwart John Allanson has been appointed general manager of Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort. In his new role, Allanson will bring his three decades worth of hospitality experience to spearhead the transition of this property and inject Outrigger’s brand values.
Outrigger’s acquisition of this resort adds to its growing global portfolio of beachfront properties which has expanded from Hawaii to renowned beach destinations like Fiji, Mauritius and Thailand.
