Centara Hotels & Resorts is now welcoming 'Smart Tourists' — who can expect digital guest solutions, a service robot and 24-hours virtual healthcare services as part of a new 5G pilot programme.

The Thai hotel operator partnered with True5G to integrate 5G solutions at Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket since November, following some four months after the reopening of the popular beach destination.

Some advanced technology additions include access to high-speed 5G without a 5G mobile, guests just need a portable plug-and-play device; as well as access to hotel services — including ordering room service, booking a spa appointment, and exploring concierge recommendations, without the need to download an app.

With health and safety a top priority in post-pandemic times, the resort also offers TytoCare, a 24-hour online doctor consultation using an innovative 5G-enabled medical exam device including otoscope, stethoscope, and tongue depressor.

Guests dining at Mare Italian Restaurant can also expect to be served by 'Ginger Lite' — an autonomated service robot equipped with touch screen and voice interaction functions.

The technology push is part of Centara Hotels & Resorts' plans to improve guests' experience, restore traveller confidence in visiting Phuket, and on a national front — "support the government sector in opening the country...particularly in a major destination like Phuket that is set to become a fully smart city," said Piroon Paireepairit, Head of 5G Working Group, True Corporation Plc.
