Authorities in Indonesia have approved an AirAsia X
joint venture, clearing the way for startup Indonesia
AirAsia Extra (IAAX) to seek international operating
permits and landing slots.
Initial routes and launch date have not yet been
finalised but AirAsia previously announced that it hopes to
have the new airline in the air by the end of the year.
Australia and North Asia will be a focus for first
operations.
The airline is a JV between Malaysia's AirAsia X, the
long-haul arm of the AirAsia Group, and Indonesia's PT
Kirana Anugerah Perkasa.
Bali's Denpasar International Airport will be the main
hub for the Indonesian startup
IAAX - the first long-haul low-cost carrier in Indonesia
- will operate Airbus A330-300 aircraft featuring two-class
configuration with 12 business class seats and 365 economy
seats.
