Delegates attending meetings at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) and are seeking five-star accommodation nearby have been challenged for choice in recent times, with just a handful of venues available.

The Sofitel Darling Harbour, The Star Casino and about 10 minutes’ walk away, the Hyatt Sydney, have been the venues of choice. But come October delegates will have another option when the W Sydney opens its doors in October.

For the past two years visitors to Darling Harbour have been watching with anticipation construction of the sleek property which sits right in the centre of the precinct, just a stone’s throw from the ICC Sydney.

Confirmation now is that the W Sydney is on track to open in October.

Described as “a beacon of bold, sophisticated design”, the hotel is set to dazzle the harbour city and guests with stylish accommodation, a cutting-edge restaurant, bars and event space.

W Sydney’s 585 rooms, suites and ultra-luxe suites are expected to set a new design benchmark for the city. Echoing the curves and lines of the exterior, no two rooms will be exactly the same, embracing their asymmetry with sleek, modern décor.

The interior palette of each room is inspired by the marine environment, with highlights being the stunning azure bathrooms and walk-in robes punctuated with contrasting colour and inflorescence.

In addition to its luxury rooms and suites, W Sydney will feature a two-storey rooftop bar, heated infinity pool overlooking Darling Harbour, AWAY Spa, FIT gym, a signature restaurant and the Living Room (bar).

Event space includes nine rooms totalling 1,308 square metres of space. The largest space – The Great Room – can accommodate up to 805 delegates theatre-style and is divisible by two.

General manager, Craig Seaward, said the W Sydney team is incredibly excited to be able to confirm the property will open in October.

“There have been delays, but trust me, it will be worth the wait,” he said. “It’s a luxury hotel with a new perspective, one that not only connects deeply with its host city and its urban setting but is also imbued with a sense of freedom and possibility.

“To cross the threshold of W Sydney will be to enter an exciting new world of creativity, design, culture and connection. We simply can’t wait to welcome our guests.”

W Sydney will be a member of the Marriott Bonvoy travel rewards programme.
