The Swissotel Merchant Court Singapore has announced plans of deflagging and leaving the Accor Group. The Paradox Hotel Group has been selected by TA Global, the hotel owner, to manage the property which will be renamed Paradox Singapore Merchant Court at Clarke Quay with effect from 1 April 2022.

With the rebranding, the hotel hopes to take on a brand-new identity in hospitality as Singapore reopens to the world. The Paradox brand was created by a group of hoteliers in Vancouver, BC Canada, that focuses on creating unique guest experiences through attention-to-detail service.

“The height of the Covid-19 pandemic was the global catalyst for a resurgence of interest in authentic human connection and a greater expectation of personalised hospitality,” said Joo Kim Tiah, CEO of TA Global. “As an industry leader, it was an opportune moment to realign and reinvent our business proposition to meet and adapt to the current needs and desires of the market.”

“We strongly believe that a distinct identity rooted in local culture is crucial for a successful hotel group,” Joo added. “It was imperative to not only come out with our own distinct brand but also create something that would exceed expectations by challenging the industry status quo.”

The location of the 476-key property in the bustling district of Clarke Quay seems to bode well with The Paradox Group’s branding, as the surrounding colonial buildings and myriad of local food a stone’s throw away allows the hotel management group to provide greater cultural immersion for its guests.

The hotel’s F&B options include the river-front Ellenborough Market Café that serves up Peranakan and international fusion cuisine; Crossroads Bar, specialising in cocktails incorporated with local flavours; and Blue Potato, a western alfresco dining concept set alongside the hotel pool.

For destination weddings or corporate conferences and meetings, the hotel offers a 680sqm column-free ballroom and seven meeting rooms. Other amenities include a pool equipped with water slides; a children’s pool; an outdoor Jacuzzi; a spa and a gym.
