The Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism has identified several island plots, all of which are available on 99-year leases at fixed prices.

The most expensive leases are the islands and lagoons in the Alifu Dhaalu, Alifu Alifu and Malé atolls.

Controversially, the government has amended regulations to allow an island, a lagoon or land to be leased with or without a bidding process.

The Maldives said it has received record revenue of US$42 million from the lease of islands since February.
