The French Riviera's historic Carlton Cannes hotel is planning to relaunch as part of IHG Hotels & Resorts' luxury Regent Hotels & Resorts portfolio this spring.

The property, which first opened in 1911, has been closed as part of a two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation. Prior to the refresh, the Carlton Cannes had operated under IHG's InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand since the early 1980s.

Upon its reopening as the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, the 332-room property will debut fully refreshed interiors and 37 branded residences. Many of the hotel's original features, however, will be preserved, including the property's Belle Epoque-era facade.

According to IHG, the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel will serve as a flagship property within what the company describes as "a new generation of Regent Hotels & Resorts."

In a statement, Kenneth Macpherson, IHG's regional CEO for Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, said that the group plans to bring a "reimagined Regent experience to life at the Carlton Cannes."

"This is just the start of our ambition to grow the brand further across Europe," Macpherson added.

The Regent brand, which was added to IHG's stable in 2018, currently has two European outposts in Berlin and Montenegro.

Elsewhere in Asia, Regent Phu Quoc has opened in Vietnam earlier this year while 2023 will mark the opening of Regent properties in Bali's Canggu and Shanghai as well as the return of the Regent brand to Hong Kong.

According to IHG, the Regent brand will be rolled out in other Asia Pacific cities like Kyoto and Kuala Lumpur.

However, Regent Singapore will soon be rebranded into Conrad Singapore Orchard under Hilton come 2023.
