Hang on, what’s going on in Dubai?

The US$1 billion mixed-use building, designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, will form the centerpiece of the Dubai Creek Harbour master-development, which is jointly being developed by Emaar and Dubai Holding.

Dubai developer Emaar has laid the foundation for the construction of what will become the world’s new tallest building – The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour.

The US$1 billion mixed-use building, designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, will form the centerpiece of the Dubai Creek Harbour master-development, which is jointly being developed by Emaar and Dubai Holding.

The development will also feature a boutique hotel.

Due to be completed by 2020, the Tower will beat Burj Khalifa (828 metres) as the tallest building in the world. However, the exact height of the new building has not yet been disclosed.

The building is being designed to resemble a lily with the image of a minaret borrowed from Islamic culture.

The Pinnacle Room will offer 360-degree views while the VIP Observation Garden Decks will be designed around the theme of the ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon.’

And while we’re on the subject of all things hanging, a New York-based architecture firm has revealed plans to develop the world’s tallest skyscraper, including a hotel that will hang above the earth from an orbiting asteroid.  The firm hopes to construct it over Dubai.

The proposal for the Analemma Tower has been created by Clouds Architecture Office, which says, “by placing a large asteroid into orbit over earth, a high strength cable can be lowered towards the surface of earth from which a super tall tower can be suspended”.

TW TAKE: Don’t hurry to book a room at the hotel; this venture looks like pie in the sky.
