The HICAP Lifetime Achievement Award honors exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments and contributions to expanding, enhancing and advancing the hotel industry in the Asia Pacific region and the world.

Larry M.K. Tchou, senior advisor – Greater China for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, has been presented with the HICAP Lifetime Achievement Award.

The HICAP Lifetime Achievement Award honors exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments and contributions to expanding, enhancing and advancing the hotel industry in the Asia Pacific region and the world.

As one of the first employees of Hyatt in Asia, Tchou was instrumental in introducing Hyatt into mainland China more than 27 years ago, and has played an irreplaceable role in establishing Hyatt’s stronghold in the region. 

Since joining Hyatt in 1970, Tchou has worked his way up from being rooms division manager, executive assistant manager, hotel manager to general manager at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, to regional positions as area vice president, and senior vice president and managing director – Asia Pacific. 

He currently serves as senior advisor – Greater China, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

With more than 40 years’ tenure with Hyatt, Tchou has gained great respect and recognition throughout the company and the industry. 

In recognition of his dedication and contribution, he was bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award by the China Hotel Investment Summit Advisory Board in April 2006, conferred Honorary Fellowship by the Vocational Training Council in November 2008, Honorary Fellow of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in May 2011 and China Hotel Industry Lifetime Achievement Award by China Hotel Starlight Awards in March, 2015. 

He is also an advocate for education in hospitality and tourism. He currently chairs various hotel and tourism boards at different educational institutions and is a member of numerous hospitality councils and committees.

Jim Burba, co-founder of BHN, speaking at the 28th annual HICAP held October 18-20 at the InterContinental Hong Kong, said, “His (Mr Tchou) significant business accomplishments have positively influenced the growth of tourism throughout Asia and indeed the world.”
