The Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and the SBF Foundation have joined hands to establish a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing much-needed support to employees in Singapore's hotel industry.

The partnership has resulted in the creation of a S$300,000 industry-led Compassion Fund, with SHA's generous donation of S$150,000 being matched dollar-for-dollar by the SBF Foundation.

Representing the collective voice of 160 hotel members in Singapore, the SHA is committed to promoting the interests of its members and ensuring the welfare of employees within the industry.

In celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2021, the association pledged S$150,000 to create a fund that would offer emotional and financial assistance to employees in times of need. This compassionate gesture by the SHA aims to provide encouragement and support to hotel employees during challenging periods.

The establishment of the SHA-SBF Foundation Compassion Fund aligns with the SBF Foundation's call for trade associations to prioritize the well-being of employees within their respective industries. By generously donating S$150,000, the SHA has set an example for other organisations to follow. The matching contribution from the SBF Foundation ensures that the fund has a significant impact and can provide meaningful aid to those in need.

Kwee Wei-Lin, president of the Singapore Hotel Association, emphasised the association's commitment to giving back to the workforce and creating a safety net for colleagues facing personal crises.

The Compassion Fund not only provides financial assistance but also offers a sense of security and reassurance that the SHA and its members are there to support employees during difficult times. Recognising the importance of mental wellness and its impact on service excellence, Kwee highlighted the fund's role in alleviating emotional stress among hotel employees.

In addition to financial support, the Compassion Fund also serves as a complement to existing support systems within member hotels. The SHA plans to reach out to its members, raising awareness about the fund and encouraging them to utilise it for the benefit of their eligible employees. By caring for their own colleagues, the SHA aims to strengthen the industry's commitment to supporting employees in need.
