Banyan Tree Group is making its first foray into Japan with the
introduction of five new properties, including two which opened earlier
this month, and signing of new strategic partnerships.
Through a partnership with Wealth Management Group, Banyan Tree Group
opened Dhawa Yura and Garrya Nijo Castle, while Banyan Tree Higashiyama
and Banyan Tree Ashinoko Hakone are scheduled to open from now through
2026.
In addition, Banyan Tree Group signed new partnerships, one with
Terraform Capital for a new-build Cassia to open in Niseko, and one with
Intrance Hotels & Resorts Inc., focusing on conversion projects to
propel further growth in Japan.
The group's properties come online just as Japan's borders reopen for international travel after two years.
Garrya
Nijo Castle Kyoto: The 25-room hotel is located right in front of Nijo
Castle, a 17th-century UNESCO World Heritage site. It offers views of
lush greenery from the lobby, seasonal French cuisine, and a wellbeing
room for restorative exercises and yoga.
Dhawa Yura Kyoto: The 138-room hotel opened its doors on 17 June
beside the Sanjo Ohashi bridge that served as the final station of the
ancient Tokaido Road from Tokyo during the Edo period. History is
reflected in the interior design and artwork, along with a wellbeing
spa.
Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto: Located in the Gion and Higashiyama
district, the 52-key hilltop urban resort will open in spring 2024 with
views of Kyoto city.
Cassia Hirafu: A newly built resort set to open in 2025, Cassia in
Niseko will be mere minutes from the Hirafu ski slope. The resort will
have 50 keys, and 113 keys for residences – ranging from one-bedroom
units to villas that are available for sale.
Banyan Tree Ashinoko Hakone: Slated to open in 2026, this new Banyan
Tree will be a luxury resort adjacent to Lake Ashino, renowned for its
hot springs and views of Mount Fuji.

Meanwhile, Club Med also heads to Japan this year with the opening of its newest resort in Kiroro, Hokkaido in December.
Two existing properties were combined to create the integrated new
Club Med Kiroro resort, which now spans two buildings, Club Med Kiroro
Peak and Club Med Kiroro Grand, a short gondola ride or a three-minute
buggy ride from each other.
Designed for couples and families with teenagers, Club Med Kiroro
Peak has a minimum age access of 12 years old while Club Med Kiroro
Grand offers family-oriented activities and facilities suitable for all
ages. The resort also features a French Alpine speciality restaurant.
