MIRI - Hornbill Skyways, an aviation company owned by the Sarawak State Government, will take over all of Vision Air’s flights when it ceases operations at the end of this month. Vision Air last week announced that it would shut down after operating in the state for 18 months. It did not give any reason for its closure. A private aviation company, Vision Air operates rural air services from Kuching to Mukah, Miri to Mulu, Miri to Bario and other interior routes, as well as chartered flights from Kota Kinabalu to Mulu. According to Hornbill Skyways' executive director Aidan Wing, the company would take over Vision Air’s services and its two 19-seater Dornier aircraft from April 1. The company will honour all flight reservations booked through Vision Air. It will also absorb most of Vision Air’s staff to ensure a smooth transition. Hornbill Skyways started operations in Sarawak 25 years ago. It has a fleet of nine Bell Jet-Rangers helicopters, three Bell Long Rangers helicopters, one Bell 430 helicopter and an executive jet.
