High-tech bid to protect China’s Great Wall


BEIJING – Chinese media reports said the country is using high-tech sensor equipment to discover and chart the 2,500 kilometres of the Great Wall that still exists. Much concern has been raised in China over the deterioration of the United Nation’s World Heritage-listed wall, partly due to exploitation by the tourism industry. The first phase of the project begins with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage collecting the data, then volunteers are encouraged to protect the wall section by section.
