Erawan Group to invest in new hotels

BANGKOK - Erawan Group Plc plans to expand its hotel and resort business by investing Bt1.3 billion (US$31.2 million) in two projects in Bangkok and on Samui Island. The first project involves the renovation of the Park Lane Mansion serviced apartments, which will be reopened as Courtyard by Mariott Bangkok in mid- 2007. The second project is the 100 percent-acquisition of Singapore-owned five-star Buriraya Resort and Spa on Samui for Bt300 million. The resort will be renamed Renaissance Kho Samui Resort and Spa and is expected to open late this year. According to Geoff Garside, executive vice president of Marriott, the company would invest more in the growing Thailand tourist industry.
