Visitors to Romania's Bran Castle — widely known as the inspiration for the lair of Dracula — are more likely to find needle marks in their arms than puncture marks of fangs in their necks.
The famous Transylvanian attraction is now luring visitors by offering free Covid-19 vaccine shots.
As part of the Romania government's push to encourage more locals to get vaccinated, the 14th-century Bran Castle is now a makeshift Covid-19 vaccine centre, where visitors can approach any of the medics sporting fang stickers without appointments made prior.
While the Romanian government has indicated plans to vaccinate 10 million of its population by September, nearly half of its locals are resisting the vaccine, according to a survey by Globesec, reported the BBC.
Bran Castle hopes to change that with its unique initiative, which also grants free entry to tour the exhibits featuring medieval torture instruments — spun off the idea of how "people got jabbed 500-600 years ago in Europe," a spokesperson told Reuters.
This is also hoped to increase footfall to the Transylvanian attraction, where tourist numbers have fallen due to the pandemic, like many other destinations worldwide.
