Australia’s newest icon takes shape in time to celebrate first year of construction

MELBOURNE - Opening in 2009, Australia’s largest combined exhibition and convention centre is taking shape on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River. The new centre is part of an A$1 billion development which includes a Hilton hotel, a lifestyle retail precinct and 60,000 metre squares of shopping. The new centre is being developed through a partnership between the State Government and Plenary Group. Ten major international conventions have are booked for the new centre, bringing more than 19,000 delegates to Melbourne with an economic impact to the State of more than $100 million.
