Tickets to the Alcazar’s famed cabaret shows in Pattaya sold out the
night the theatre finally reopened for the first time in over two years,
following Thailand’s lifting of restrictions on entertainment venues,
pubs and bars on 1 June.
Domestic and international tourists alike flocked to the Alcazar
Cabaret Show theatre to catch its extravagant shows featuring glamorous
performers with elaborate costumes. Pawin Phettrakul, Alcazar executive,
was reported by the Bangkok Post as saying that the response exceeded
his expectations.
Majority of the audience comprised Indians, Vietnamese, and South Korean nationals, along with Thai visitors as well.
Despite the show selling out on its reopening day, Pawin doesn’t hold
onto hopes that it will surpass pre-pandemic levels. Instead, he hopes
that there will be more entertainment venues and attractions in Pattaya,
alongside the beach and other natural attractions, to attract a greater
number of tourists.
The Bangkok Post quoted Pawin as saying that if more entertainment
venues reopened like before, more tourists would return to Pattaya,
considering that tourists were complaining about the lack of places to
visit in the city currently.
The show’s performers are happy to be back in the spotlight once
again, telling the Bangkok Post that after the theatre was ordered to
shut due to the pandemic, they were forced to find other jobs to make a
living, such as working as servers or being self-employed.
As of 6 June, Alcazar Cabaret Show Pattaya announced on its Facebook
page that it will only operate four days a week — Monday, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday — with two shows daily at 5.30pm and 7pm.
