A female passenger aboard a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight on Monday accidentally mistook the emergency exit door for the toilet, causing a seven-hour delay to the flight.

The aircraft was on the runway at Manchester Airport in England when the woman mistakenly opened the emergency door.

The PIA flight from Manchester –Islamabad was preparing for take-off when a woman seated at the rear of the Boeing 777 got up from her seat to use the toilet.

The woman mistakenly opened the aircraft’s left rear door - believing it was the toilet door - automatically deploying the aircraft’s emergency chute, according to the Times of Islamabad.

The incident caused a near seven-hour delay as the crew had to reseat 21 of the 393 passengers and offload 35, because the rear exit door was no longer available for use in the event of an emergency.
