The thrice-weekly charter flights, which will operate till September, will help boost the island’s fledging tourism industry, said Datuk Rozman Isli, Labuan Corporation chairman, in Bernama, Malaysia’s national news agency.

Malaysia’s hybrid carrier Malindo Air is helping bolster tourism in Labuan, a duty-free island in Malaysia located off the coast Sabah, with scheduled Taipei (Taiwan)-Kota Kinabalu (Sabah)-Labuan charters starting this July.

The thrice-weekly charter flights, which will operate till September, will help boost the island’s fledging tourism industry, said Datuk Rozman Isli, Labuan Corporation chairman, in Bernama, Malaysia’s national news agency.

He also called on the island’s tourism players, local authorities and the business community to work together and provide quality services to welcome the expected foreign tourists.

Rozman said the charter flights would also pave the way for bilateral trade between the local and Taiwanese business communities.

Labuan is one of the three federal territories in Malaysia (the other two being Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya), and comprises the main island of Labuan and six smaller islands. The main town, Labuan Town (formerly known as Victoria), is best known as an offshore financial centre offering international financial and business services.
