The strength of the recovery by airlines following the reopening of
most international borders post-pandemic has been reinforced by a strong
profit result for the Emirates group in the first-half of its 2022-23
financial year.
The group recorded a net profit of US$1.2 billion across the six
months. This followed a $5.5bn loss for the 2020-2021 financial year,
the airline’s first in more than three decades, after grounding its
fleet and making heavy lay offs during the pandemic.
Emirates carried 20 million passengers during the first half, a 228% increase year on year.
Separately, Emirates and Gulf Air have signed a codeshare agreement, due to launch in December.
The new agreement will offer connections and expanded choices for
Gulf Air customers connecting to Dubai and onwards to Emirates
destinations across Europe, Africa, South America and Asia.
