Cebu Pacific boosts Japan flights

CEB is awaiting delivery of seven Airbus A321s in 2018, and an additional 32 Airbus A321NEO planes from 2018 to 2022. The carrier has an existing order for 10 ATR 72-600 aircraft, set for delivery from 2017 to 2020.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) is increasing its flights to Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia in anticipation of higher traffic leading to the Christmas season.

CEB is boosting the frequency of its Manila-Tokyo (Narita) route by 100%, from the current seven times a week, to 14 times weekly, starting October 29 until March 24.

The carrier will also add an extra flight between Manila and Osaka to boost the route to six times weekly starting November 3 until December 6. From December 15 to March 2018, the airline will operate a daily service on the route.

For the Manila-Nagoya route, CEB will fly six times a week, up from the current four times weekly, starting October 29.

CEB had earlier expressed interest in mounting operations between Manila and Tokyo (Haneda), citing strong demand for Haneda Airport, which is closer to Tokyo's city centre.

The carrier said it has been requesting the Philippine government to ask Japanese counterparts for bilateral air talks for the last two years.

For the first half of 2017, CEB reported a load of 10.1 million passengers, roughly the same volume in the same period in 2016. Of the total, 7.5 million flew domestic routes, while 2.6 million travelled to CEB's 26 international destinations.

The carrier also reported plans to sell off three Airbus A319 aircraft over the next 12 months, to make way for new aircraft, the first of which are scheduled to arrive by the first quarter of 2018.
