The move comes after Fernandes had reported said the group was looking to expand its Airbus wide-body models and its AirAsia X fleet. It currently owns 242 Airbus models, comprising 212 units of A320 and 30 units of the A330.
AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has confirmed that the low cost carrier has placed an order for 66 units of Airbus 330 neo passenger jets.
Fernandes also said in his latest Twitter that the airline may place an additional order with the aircraft manufacturer, The Star reported.
“Off to Airbus today in Toulouse. Lots to discuss. The A330 neo (is equipped) with Rolls Royce engines. They (weigh) 251 tonnes (and) can reach London,” he said.
