AirAsia scores with online bookings

KUALA LUMPUR - In the past 14 months AirAsia, Malaysia's no frills airline, has recorded online sales of over RM60 million (US$15.79 million), accounting for about 45 percent of its total reservations, said its chairman Datuk Pahamin A. Rajab.

The airline's website at www.airasia.com has an average of 194,416 hits monthly.

To cater to the increasing popularity of its online bookings, AirAsia launched its multi-lingual website on Tuesday. Apart from English, it now has a Bahasa Malaysia (national language) and Mandarin versions.

AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes said the Tamil version would be introduced by late August or early September, while Thai and Tagalog would be launched later.

Despite its success AirAsia is in no hurry to expand regionally as its priority is develop the domestic market as there was still room for growth in this segnment, said Fernandes.

AirAsia currently flies to 13 destinations in Malaysia.
