Abacus Distribution Systems, the predecessor of Abacus International, has paid Worldspan US$40 million in charges relating to the decision by a tribunal in London made in favour of Worldspan early August (TravelWeekly East, August 24).

According to Neil Beck, Worldspan’s senior vice president of worldwide product, Abacus was prompt in its payment which concluded a few weeks ago.

“We were surprised at how quickly they paid up. I suppose it was in their interest to do so since there was a high daily interest charge associated with the award,” said Beck to TravelWeekly East.

Beck said Worldspan was “pleased” with the sum of money it now has and will reinvest the money in new products for its customers as well as possible acquisitions.
