A monorail for Jakarta

JAKARTA – A deal is being inked between the Jakarta administration and a private consortium that will see a monorail system being built in the Indonesian capital by 2006.

The consortium called PT. Jakarta Monorail, comprises investors including PT Indonesia Transit Central, Hitachi of Japan, SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit), Omnico and Temasek of Singapore, reports said.

The building of the infrastructure of the light rapid transit (LRT) type will take two years and estimated to cost US$540 million.
