Adrenalin Town is perfect for a little group action

Queenstown is perfect for groups, with substantial meetings facilities and high quality incentive activities. One option for small groups is a Nomads Safaris 4WD tour through Skippers Canyon to reveal some of the secrets of the filming of the trilogy, Lord of the Rings.

Amway China will be sending 10,000 of its elite sales people to Queenstown in 2018 for five days, thanks to the efforts of Tourism New Zealand, Destination Queenstown, Air New Zealand and Immigration New Zealand.

The group will visit in multiple waves of 500 in autumn 2018.

So what can Amway’s best expect during their time in New Zealand’s South Island. Here’s our quick guide:

Queenstown is New Zealand’s year-round adrenalin-heavy capital where you can try anything that takes your fancy - from bungee jumping, hang gliding, para-sailing, zip-lining, river jetting and, in season, skiing and snow boarding.

Conveniently, not every activity involves eye-bulging, heart-thumping action. So it’s okay to pass on A J Hackett’s bungee jumping from the Kawarau Bridge and instead head a little further out of town to the Central Otago region for a taste of world-class wine and a local New Zealand cheese platter.

Or cruise in a vintage steamship, TSS Earnslaw, on Lake Wakatipu, roll the dice at Skycity Wharf Casino or soak away for an hour or two in Onsen Hot Pools overlooking the Shotover River.
Even if you can’t get enough of the winter chill, or want to cool off in summer, there are two ice bars in town where they’ll wrap you up and give you gloves to hold a solid ice glass containing a vodka cocktail.

On the Arrow River, at the old gold mining town of Arrowtown, you can get your feet wet looking at the spot in the movie where Arwen called a flood in the form of horses, killing the Ringwraiths.
The riders in the movie were local farmers on their own horses and the background scenery was filmed not far away on the Shotover River, where another of Queenstown’s action attractions is located: the Shotover Jet.

Milford Sound is best reached by a helicopter ride, or coach and cruise, taking in Fiordland and the Mount Aspiring National Park; while on the ground the drive between Queenstown and Lake Wanaka, over the Crown Range, offers superb mountain scenery and the opportunity to stop for a break at the Cardrona Hotel, one of New Zealand’s oldest pubs.

Another unique Queenstown product, which can be customised for groups, is the New Zealand Wine Experience at The Winery in Beach Street where visitors can choose from more than 80 tasting wines – and have their favourites shipped home.

Golf is one of the big attractions of Queenstown. Jeweller Michael Hill has his own private course, The Hills, home of the New Zealand Open. Remarkables Golf Tours will pick you up from your hotel and take you to any or each of the top five 18-hole golf courses in the area, with Jack’s Point and the Millbrook Resort being standouts.

Queenstown’s hotel stock offers a range of options for conference and incentive groups from three- to five-star. The Rydges Lakeland Queenstown resort is currently undergoing a total refurbishment, and boutique hotel Hulbert House is set to open in May, offering small incentive groups a unique luxury experience in the heart of the town centre. There’s also the four-star Ramada Hotel & Suites Remarkables Park Queenstown, opening in June with 72 beds.
