The main exhibition of Macau’s largest art and culture festival to date opened on June 6 and will run until October.
Art Macao 2019 is turning Macau into a city-wide art destination with fine art, sculpture and mixed media answering to the theme diversity, and designed to appeal to and connect both residents and visitors to Macau.
The main exhibition, “Art Macao: International Art Exhibition”, has been curated by seven partnering companies, with previews including several specific pieces.
Curator Chip Tom introduced a number of works by artists such as Refik Anadol from Turkey, Jennifer Steinkamp from America, and Edoardo Tresoldi from Italy, who created a spectacular wire mesh Renaissance-style building.
Meanwhile, “The Universe” by artist Meng Shu, consists of a series of glass spheres and sand lit by a LED light box placed in Thuja and sponsored by SJM.
For those interested in Portuguese art, a dedicated space for video pieces has been reserved.
Wynn Macau’s “Garden of Earthly Delights”, housed in a custom-built gallery, opened at Wynn Cotai too.
While art will be found all around the city, the Macao Museum of Art, Macao Contemporary Art Centre, Old Court Building and OxWarehouse will be key locations.
