Hotels in the Bali have been told to check their health and safety
protocols after last week’s fatal accident at the Ayu Terra Resort in
Ubud.
An elevator carrying five staff members from the resort plummeted
down the lift shaft when cables snapped, and brake mechanisms failed.
Five members of staff lost their lives in the tragedy.
Ubud police commissioner I Made Uder said all police stations in Bali
had been notified by the island’s police chief that they should check
for the safety of lifts in resorts and ensure that each property,
especially those properties on the sides of cliffs, had a disaster
evacuation plan.
“It is the hotel’s obligation to have a disaster evacuation plan.
During the evacuation at Ayu Terra, it was a bit difficult for us. This
regulation will ensure that tourists are comfortable and safe in Ubud,”
he said.
