No one really needs an excuse to visit Laos but if one is needed the
announcement that 2023-2024 will be Visit Laos Year adds to the
country’s appeal.
Authorities acknowledge, however, that much needs to be done to
enhance the tourism offering in Laos, which the central government has
recognised by pledging to improve hospitality training, transportation,
security and labour shortages ahead of the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Laos
in 2024.
Laos
believes the reopening of China’s borders will stimulate its ailing
economy, with hopes that international visitor numbers this year will
hit 1.4 million.
A
spokesman for the government said public transport would be made more
accessible, especially by streamlining ticket sales on the Laos-China
Railway.
There will also be a focus on completion of road and airport construction projects, and the repair of key highways.
