This is the highest percentage among Asia Pacific travellers, the report reveals.

Over a third of Hong Kong travellers are happy to pay for five-star accommodation when they travel, according to Travel Search Engine KAYAK’s first Hotel Travel Report.

This is the highest percentage among Asia Pacific travellers, the report reveals.

In addition, 77% of Hong Kong travellers’ hotel searches are for Asian destinations, intra-regional travel proving a strong trend.

“We know that Hong Kong travellers love to explore,” said Matthew Wong, country manager Hong Kong of KAYAK said, “but this new research also shows that many of them also search for hotels within Hong Kong - both for short and long breaks - proving that the global staycation trend is catching on here in Hong Kong as well.”

Hong Kong is, in fact, the number one destination for short stays of one to three days for Hong Kongers, followed by Seoul, Bangkok, Macau and Taipei.

For stays of one to two weeks Bangkok rates highest, followed by Hong Kong, then Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul.

And, perhaps most surprisingly, for hotel stays of two weeks and above, Hong Kong again ranks top in destinations searched by Hong Kongers, followed by London, Bangkok, Tokyo and New York.
