HONG KONG – As the year of the rat kicks off a brand new 12-year cycle, Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will be staging a four-day free-for-all mega carnival, in addition to its usual night parade on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Title-sponsored by national carrier Cathay Pacific, the carnival will run from the first day of CNY from Jan 25 to 28 at the Art Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District.

“The HKTB has been staging its Chinese New Year event for nearly a quarter of a century to spread happiness across the city. This… 25th edition… provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the much-loved festival in a new way. While enjoying the carnival, we hope the people of Hong Kong will share the festivities with their families and friends living abroad,” said HKTB chairman Dr YK Pang.

One of the highlights from the family-friendly event is parade and stage performances by 26 international performing troupes and 22 local teams.

Performers to look out for include India’s V. Unbeatable, which rose to international fame in reality show America’s Got Talent, and UPeepz and VPeepz from the Philippines who gained stardom in NBC’s World of Dance.

There will also be plenty of photo spots with various backdrops that incorporate Hong Kong’s skyline and feature festive mouse cartoon characters.

Visitors can also look forward to the first Chinese New Year market with 15 booths serving up food and fun workshops like balloon twisting and face painting sessions.

“We hope that both the people of Hong Kong and visitors from all over the world will enjoy this spectacular carnival, and experience the rich and vibrant festive culture of this city. We look forward to another great celebration, showcasing the fun, jubilant atmosphere and energy that embodies the character of Hong Kong,” shared Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer Ronald Lam.
