What a bazaar experience

Mount Faber Leisure Group has soft-opened Central Beach Bazaar, a day-to-night carnival beach experience offering, in a single location, a variety of entertainment and dining options.

Central Beach Bazaar is home to the Sentosa SkyJet, the tallest fountain in South-east Asia, plus eight street food concepts at International Food Street.

Simulation rides and carnival games, and spectacular music and water displays by the Sentosa Musical Fountain and Wings of Time encircle the existing MFLG dining and retail experiences at Good Old Days Food Court & Western Grill and FUN Shop @ Beach Plaza.

A blast to Singapore’s storied past

An urban safari experience through Singapore’s concrete jungle awaits cultural and historical fans at The Barracks Hotel in Sentosa. The hotel’s specially curated two-night Heritage Safari package offers two thematic trails – Colonial Architecture Tour and Cultural Gems – with five different itineraries that will immerse travellers in Singapore’s rich cultural heritage as they commute around the country in the back of a jeep.

Before guests embark on their Heritage Safari tours, an apparel fitting appointment will be arranged where each guest will be offered a personalised safari shirt, complete with customisable name, buttons, thread colour and the hotel’s embroidered logo.

Those who opt for the Colonial Architecture Tour will visit the buildings that once housed the British armed forces in the 1800s back when Singapore was still under the British rule. They will also get to explore key historical sites such as Fort Siloso, Mount Imbiah, Seletar Estate, Gillman Barracks, and Dempsey Hill, before ending the day with a three-course dining experience in a restored colonial manor.

The Cultural Gems thematic trail offers four different walking tours that follow Singapore’s multicultural heritage through the ethnic enclaves in Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Katong or Tiong Bahru. Depending on the tour selected, travellers will be able to experience a Chinese tea appreciation workshop, a batik art workshop, taste the fast-vanishing Peranakan culture and cuisine, or pick up tips from a professional photographer while snapping pictures of Singapore’s hippiest neighbourhood.

A scentsational affair

For a more personalised, unique experience, travellers can look to Scentopia, a perfumery on Siloso Beach Resort that houses over 160 individual scents, meant for customers to mix-and-match to create their own bespoke bottle of perfume.

The perfume-making workshop starts off with a personality test that would point them in the right direction of which five scent families — citrus, fresh, floral, woody and oriental — they should select from. After identifying their preferred combination of scents, they will get to create a sample and choose to either confirm their composition with the staff or redo the selection process until they mix up a fragrance they’re contented with.

While the adults and teenagers are busy mixing up their fragrances, younger kids can be kept entertained with Scentopia’s 300 interactive augmented reality exhibits. They simply need to scan a QR code on each educational board to discover dinosaurs roaring to life on their phones or floral species reimagined as fantastical creatures hopping around on their screens.

The sky’s the limit

The SkyHelix is touted as Singapore’s highest open-air panoramic ride.
The SkyHelix is touted as Singapore’s highest open-air panoramic ride.

The SkyHelix, Sentosa’s latest attraction, is not for the faint hearted. Touted as Singapore’s highest open-air panoramic ride, guests will be securely strapped down to the chairs on a gondola which will then ascent 35m as their legs dangle in thin air.

The gondola will start gently rotating as it rises into the sky for guests sitting at different areas to snap selfies from every vantage point, and it will continue revolving for 10 minutes at its peak. Every ticket includes a complimentary drink, which guests can bring along with them on their ride and sip at leisure as they take in the breeze and surrounding vistas.

Eco-conscious travellers may also be happy to note that SkyHelix is the first carbon-neutral attraction on the island, specifically designed for energy efficiency.
