Expanded this year to include Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, ‘Best in Asia Pacific’ is Lonely Planet’s annual online list of the region’s 10 best destinations to visit over the coming year.

Margaret River and southern Western Australia have been named as this year’s number one Asian-Pacific destination by Lonely Planet.

Expanded this year to include Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, ‘Best in Asia Pacific’ is Lonely Planet’s annual online list of the region’s 10 best destinations to visit over the coming year.

Lonely Planet said of the Margaret River region, “Take one look at Meelup Beach and you’ll wonder where it’s been all your life: the West Australian bush parts to reveal an ocean the hue of a Bombay Sapphire bottle, which is typical of the coastline stretching from Margaret River to the state’s south.

“Beyond the sand, some of the country’s slickest wineries, breweries and restaurants lie between tracts of tall-tree forest and kangaroo-dotted farmland.”

Other destinations to make the top 10 list (in order) are:  Shikoku, Japan; Bay of Islands and Northland, New Zealand; Singapore (“the Lion City is hipper and hotter than ever”); the Cook Islands; Central Vietnam; Fiji; Palawan, Philippines; Beijing and Cambodia (“The skyline of Phnom Penh is on the up, bringing sky bars and designer dining”).
