Swan Hellenic has announced the launch of its third purpose-designed expedition cruise ship, SH Diana, following its Amsterdam Naming Ceremony Celebrations.

The new vessel was named by Valerie Ann Wilson, founder and CEO of Valerie Wilson Travel, in the presence of Swan Hellenic Senior Management, local dignitaries, VIP guests, and members of the cruise and travel industries from around the world.

SH Diana is Swan Hellenic's biggest ship, and it's been designed for exploring the most incredible places around the world, with a special focus on areas with extreme latitudes. The ship has extra-large stabilisers, so passengers will feel more comfortable onboard, and it uses a 4.6-megawatt diesel-electric propulsion system with selective catalytic reduction and a PC6 ice-strengthened hull. All of this means that the ship can go to places that are typically hard to reach.

SH Diana is self-sufficient for up to 40 days and 8,000 nautical miles. It meets the latest environmental regulations, with advanced wastewater treatment systems, exhaust gas cleaning, and waste storage facilities, and is designed for sensitive polar areas. The ship is also preparing to use zero-emission battery technology, allowing it to operate silently in sensitive natural areas.

Amenities onboard include a state-of-the-art gym, spa, panoramic sauna, restaurant and cellar, club room, and swimming pool with a poolside grill. The ship provides spacious 5-star accommodation for 192 guests in 96 spacious staterooms and suites, the vast majority of which have large balconies.

Similar to its sister ships, SH Diana features open-plan interiors, unobstructed sea views, and extensive deck areas. However, it has a dedicated presentation and lecture theatre overlooking the lounge and on-board tender boats in addition to the expedition zodiacs.

SH Diana has set sail from Amsterdam on a cultural expedition cruise called “Norway Explored.” The journey will take 11 days and go through the fjords, ending in Tromsø, Norway on 14 May.

Swan Hellenic has also launched an exciting new partnership with JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, called Maris, which offers dining experiences with world-famous chefs.

SH Diana’s post-naming cruise features five JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs chefs, showcasing the extraordinary creative variety of Maris gastronomy, with Michael Ammon remaining on board after the celebrations as the Maris chef.
