DOVER, UK - Virgin Voyages has introduced Scarlet Lady, its first cruise liner, ahead of its positioning to Miami.
Scarlett Lady, at 110,000 grt, maximum 2,700 adult passengers (18 plus) and 1,160 crew, will offer a series of five-night Caribbean cruises aimed at the 30-60 age market.
With the 2021 arrival of sister ship Valiant Lady and its initial Mediterranean programme ex Barcelona, Virgin will include an overnight call at Ibiza, part of the ship's advertised “fun experience”.
Virgin Group founder Richard Branson said in a statement, "I'm so proud that as we start this exciting journey, we also bring to life Virgin Voyages' commitment to preserving the ocean and the first of many steps towards a net zero carbon future."
Among the technology Virgin is using is Climeon, which utilises heat generated from the ship's engines to generate electricity, decreasing the demand for fuel.
Two more ships are planned for the Virgin fleet.
