PortMiami achieved a new milestone by welcoming a record-breaking
number of cruise passengers in a single day. On 9 April, a total of
67,594 guests visited the port, making it the busiest passenger day in
PortMiami's history.
The achievement was made possible by the presence of eight different
cruise ships, including the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Horizon,
Explorer of the Seas, MSC Seascape, Norwegian Encore, Oasis of the Seas,
Seabourn Ovation, and Scarlet Lady.
The majority of these ships were homeported in Miami and offered
various Caribbean and North America itineraries during the winter
season. For example, the Oasis of the Seas, one of the world's largest
cruise ships, departed on a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise,
stopping at Mexico, Honduras, and the Bahamas. The Explorer of the Seas
embarked on a six-night Western Caribbean cruise, visiting the Cayman
Islands and Jamaica.
Carnival Cruise Line also had a presence with the Carnival
Celebration sailing on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise, while the
Carnival Horizon embarked on a six-night Western Caribbean journey.
Virgin's Scarlet Lady was in Miami as part of its year-round schedule,
offering cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
Other cruise lines like Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises also
contributed to the record-breaking day with their respective week-long
itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Lastly, the Seabourn
Ovation commenced its 14-day transatlantic crossing to the UK, starting
in Miami and ultimately arriving in Dover, following a stop in Bermuda.
