Oceania Cruises’ Go Local tours takes cruisers beyond tourist sites

The travellers of today are not simply content with visiting traditional touristic attractions. They crave cultural immersion and collecting unique moments, something which Oceania Cruises intends to tap on with a new series of Go Local tours.

When cruising with Oceania Cruises, cruisers are able to disembark for shore excursions to visit vendors in local markets, dine with local families, explore family-owned farms and vineyards, or experience what life is like for a local in the destination of visit.

“We are seeing an increased desire to support local artisans, cultures, communities and cuisine, with travellers eager to show their support and make a positive impact on both the people they visit and their own wellbeing,” said Steve Odell, Senior Vice President & Managing Director Asia-Pacific, Oceania Cruises.

The recently unveiled collection of new Go Local tours include:
• River life in Nha Trang, Vietnam: Discover how locals make a living from the waterways and watch carpenters build wooden fishing boats.
• Ancient rituals in Mumbai, India: Explore an ancient temple to catch a Hindu prayer ritual, and visit a sacred healing water tank.
• Meditate with a monk in Bangkok, Thailand: Pick up guided meditation techniques from a monk.
• Wine and olive oil making in Dubrovnik, Croatia: Learn time-honoured techniques in a family’s wine cellar and olive press room.
• A taste of Heraklion, Greece: Partake in a variety of local activities ranging from watching a folkloric performance to sampling Cretan culinary delights.
• Farm life in Corfu, Greece: Feed horses and donkeys on a farm, pick tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh herbs from the garden, and share a meal with the family.
• Life of a shepherd in Bilbao, Spain: Practice sheep herding and transforming sheep’s milk into Idiazabal cheese.
• Fishing with natives in Portofino, Italy: Spend a day with local fishermen and enjoy freshly caught seafood onboard their fishing boat.

To complement the cultural immersion experience, guests on board Oceania Cruises will be treated to dishes prepared using seasonal local produce.
