Experiencing the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, within Norway’s Arctic Circle is one the great bucket list trips that travellers boast about for years afterwards.

Now Hurtigruten’s recently released 16-day North Cape Express journey offers an opportunity to do just that, while experiencing Norway’s culture and traditions, and spectacular scenery.

One of two new itineraries launched to commemorate Hurtigruten’s 130-year anniversary next year, the North Cape Express marks the first time Hurtigruten will undertake regular sailings to and from Oslo, the country’s capital.

Sailing onboard MS Trollfjord, this upgraded extension to Hurtigruten’s traditional Coastal Express route also takes in Norway’s oldest lighthouse at Lindesnes, the country’s southernmost tip, before setting course for its most northerly point at Longitude 71 degrees, deep within the Arctic Circle.

Other highlights include scenic cruising through the Hardangerfjord, as well as half and full-day visits to new ports in southern Norway, and towns and fishing villages along Norway’s eastern coast.

Onboard, the itinerary will offer cooking demonstrations and classes, as well as wine, beer, champagne, and whisky tastings in the new food centre; and picnic and culinary excursions – another first for the company.

And if, by chance, the Northern Lights do not occur within sight of MS Trollfjord at least once on any full-length North Cape Express voyage, Hurtigruten will give guests another 6-day southbound or 7-day northbound original Coastal Express Classic Voyage, free of charge.

The North Cape Express will offer eight departures between September 2023 and March 2024.
