Celebrity Cruises CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said the Apex's debut is "a dream come true" after a delay of more than a year.

The Celebrity Apex departed Athens on 21 June on its maiden cruise, more than a year after the ship was delivered in March 2020.

The second ship in Celebrity's Edge class will spend its first season in the Aegean offering seven-day sailings from the Greek capital.

"After all this time, what a dream come true for everyone onboard this exquisite ship in one of the world's most breathtaking regions. Her sail-away today is a meaningful moment for our guests, our crew and our company. I think we are all having 'pinch me' moments," Celebrity CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said in a statement.

The ship's first itinerary will visit Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini, Greece, as well as Limassol, Cyprus.

The Apex will sail with a vaccinated crew and at least 95% of vaccinated guests. The line is allowing guests to freely explore on Greek islands, as per rules put in place by Greece.

The ship will feature many of the new-to-Celebrity spaces and amenities that debuted on the Edge, but will also have its own menus, entertainment and spa/wellness programmes.
