Faster entry through to the UK from mid-2019 for Singaporeans and South Koreans
This builds upon the plan to allow passport holders from the United States, New Zealand, Australia and Japan to use the facility, which is currently available only to British and European Union nationalities.
Singaporeans and South Koreans visiting the United Kingdom will be eligible to use automated ePassport gates for faster clearance from mid 2019, said British Home Secretary Sajid Javid.
This builds upon the plan to allow passport holders from the United States, New Zealand, Australia and Japan to use the facility, which is currently available only to British and European Union nationalities.
“The UK is absolutely open for business from the rest of the world and as part of that, we are improving the experience for travellers coming into the UK,” said Javid in a statement released by the British Home Office.
ePassport gates utilise facial recognition technology to compare passengers’ passport photographs with their appearance, and automatically screen them against Border Force systems and watchlists, reported Straits Times.
